Health & Safety Consultancy
The Health & Safety Services with its wide range of expertise offers not only training on all aspects of health & safety but also support to industry and the public sector through consultancy, audits, noise assessments and the provision of an up to date information service.
Comprehensive Audit of Safety & Health
The Audit is designed to achieve three principle objectives:
- To identify the systems of health and safety management
- To determine the current level of effectiveness
- To provide a report, which will form the basis of any action plan
The method used is to examine the management system and documentation through a series of searching questions. A physical inspection of the workplace is then carried out and relevant staff interviewed to confirm implementation of health and safety procedures. Following the audit a detailed report is compiled containing recommendations from which an action plan can be developed.
Fire Risk Assessment
The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 (as amended) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require a fire risk assessment of all workplaces to be carried out. We are able to undertake these assessments and provide a comprehensive report.
The assessment takes into account the whole of the workplace and is carried out in a practical and systematic way. The method used is to identify the fire hazards, observe existing precautions, and to consult personnel, making full use of their knowledge and experience.
The assessment will satisfy legal requirements and provide an action plan to reduce the risk of a fire starting, as well as to protect personnel in the event of a fire.
Workplace Noise Assessment
The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 requires employers to assess the health and safety risks associated with exposure to noise. We can assist employers to comply with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations by the provision of:
- Noise assessments using competent assessors and the latest equipment
- Training
- Noise reduction advice including acoustic engineering controls
The Noise Assessment will identify the daily noise exposure of those employees who might be at risk of hearing damage, and will provide information to help you decide upon the measures to be taken to control the noise exposure and to develop an action plan. Assessments are not a one-off activity. The Noise at Work Regulations recommend that assessments are carried out every 2 years.
Portable Appliance Testing
We can provide a visual inspection. All plugs are opened (unless of sealed type) and the security and correctness of the terminations checked and the suitability of the fuse rating determined. Reports produced in Windows Excel format and are available in hard copy, compact disk or memory stick.

Retained Consultancy
Retained Consultancy is a method where, by paying a quarterly fee in advance for an agreed number of days work in a 12-month period, a substantial discount can be offered. We will endeavour to give whatever help is needed, or, should the topic be very specialist, to find an associate that can assist. The package can be used in 3 complementary ways.
Firstly, it can provide regular visits to the company to assist with health and safety management issues such as helping with Risk Assessments or writing the Health and Safety Policy. Secondly, it can provide technical expertise in matters such as monitoring for dust or taking noise measurements. Thirdly, it can be used to provide additional back-up from our offices; this could include a telephone discussion, research into a particular issue, etc. A letter or report on the topic can be provided, should you wish.
Where assistance is required at short notice, we will endeavour to provide the services of an adviser as soon as possible, depending on existing work commitments.
Time charged will depend on the length of time required to visit the location or to deal with each topic. We will keep a record of each job or visit requested, by whom it was requested and how long it took. At the end of each quarter we will submit a copy of this record, together with our invoice for the forthcoming quarter.
Whilst you would be expected to manage your health and safety projects overall, this consultancy can be used in a joint approach to bring health and safety matters towards best practice more rapidly by using some of your own inputs and some of ours.
